Woodwork by Glen Roberts
and stitching by Vineta Gailite at Glen’s Yurt Factory. Symbols and design for
covers: Vineta Gailite, Joseph Haigh and Michael Holland all are members of
Collective North, a collective for artists and makers which emerged since few MA
graduates wanted to stay together and carry on a collaborative and supportive
spirit among creatives as experienced when working at Manchester School of Art
studios.
Initially this yurt and it’s decorative wall cover was specifically made
for the event ‘Dada 100 and a half ‘ celebration at the Wonder Inn in
Manchester, by Vineta Gailite and Josph Haigh working collaboratively: cutting out symbols, arranging and sewing, dedicating it memory to Kurt Schwitters.
Then
it had travelled to Merz Barn Langdale to be exhibited and also provide a
night’s shelter at the Autumn school (series of talks and seminars in relation
to Dada and Kurt Schwitters); therefore yurt’s outer layer needed to be fully
weather-proved. With a help of Michael Holland watertight roof was sewn and decorated.
There is a short time lapse of Vineta, Michael and Glen putting this yurt up at Merz Barn &th October 2016.
Now yurt is fully equipped
to function as an outdoor shelter, and early spring 2017 will travel away to
Latvia with Michael and Vineta to provide a dwelling while they are setting up
a permaculture garden.
Also one of the panels of a decorative cover will be left here with Joseph Haigh so we had redesigned replacement for one of them one of them!
